Vancouver

The last few weeks have been amazing, I’m so excited to share my travel journey with you guys. On instagram you will see some pictures of Cleveland and Pittsburgh, here I will focus on Vancouver and Nanaimo though.

Vancouver is an incredible city in British-Columbia. My boyfriend and I stayed at a wonderful apartment via airbnb and since it was in Downtown Vancouver, we were right in the center of action.

When you go there, you have to walk to the Waterfront. The olympic flame stands between architectural skyscrapers and the ocean. There’s also a nice café which you can see in the second picture. You can walk along the promenade which has a wonderful view on the idyllic scenery: snowcapped mountains and trees above the blue sea.

Another spot to visit is the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese garden, because it is beautifully quiet and lets you meditate or just enjoy the peaceful vibes in contrast to the fast and overwhelming experience in the city.

What’s also great about Vancouver is that there are nice bike lanes and lots of rental stations. I really recommend to bike or walk around the Stanley Park which offers beach, grass, water and an incredible view on Vancouver’s skyline. You can stop at any time and inhale the fresh air, let the sunshine tickle your skin and just enjoy the moment.

If you’re interested in art, the Vancouver Art Gallery is quite amazing – it has lots of artists from different periods and its architecture is also visually interesting. When you enter the gallery, there’s a monochrom typography artwork on both wall and floor which gives the antique setting a new twist.

Now my favorite part of Vancouver is most likely gastown – a small area with artsy and hipster vibes. It has a lot of amazing cocktail bars, perfectly styled shops and cute bakeries and cafés. At night, the whole street is lit up by beautiful lights which creates a unique and special atmosphere.

Since walking around that much can make you quite hungry, here are some recommendations where to eat:

Steamworks Brewing Company (sweet potato fries with pesto-mayonnaise, Burgers + Cocktails)
Shuraku Sake Bar & Bistro (Lunchbox A + B, delicious Japanese kitchen)
Blue Water Café (sophisticated Seafood, expensive but definitely worth the prize!)
D’oro Gelato e Caffè (best passionfruit icecream, tastes like in Italy)
Jang Mo Jib (Doe Jee Bool Go Gee, Mool Mahn Doo, amazing Korean food)
Tim Hortons (doughnuts & more)

I also picked out some nice stores for you:

Anthropologie  |  Aesop  |  hey jude  |  lululemon athletica  |  Liberal Arts Fashion  |  Örling & Wu  |  zientte interiors  |  Kit and Ace  |  DAVIDsTEA  |  one of a few  |  Noul

If you have enough time, you can take a ferry to Vancouver Island. We were in Nanaimo, which is a really sweet town. In the morning, you can see the sun come out above the ocean and it’s just an incredible view!

I hope you enjoyed this post!
If you have any questions or suggestions to add, feel free to comment.

P.S. Another must-do is going to the Canucks icehockey games which are truly entertaining!
